Historical Highlights


The FARMERS MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY AT BILLINGS, CHRISTIAN COUNTY, MISSOURI was organized on the 9th day of May, 1891, under the Farmers Mutual Insurance Laws of Missouri. Providing for the same and now operating under the Mutual Insurance Laws of Missouri under the State Department of Insurance (Section 380.201-380.611 RSMo 1984).

The duration of the company shall be perpetual.

The Constitution, by-laws, applications and minutes were written in German until January 1896, when all records were changed to English.

The first delegate to the state convention was in 1901 at Carrollton, Missouri

On December 21, 1992, the company charter was amended to change the name of the company to Billings Mutual Insurance Company with its home office in Billings (Christian County), Missouri. The company shall be authorized to operate and sell insurance in such areas as shall be provided in the Mutual Insurance Laws of Missouri.

The company began operation with a volume of $50,000 fire insurance in force. In 1962 the company began writing a combined Fire and Windstorm policy. Since then the company has added a portfolio of several products such as Homeowners, Mobile Owners and Ranch-owners.

The company insurance in force has grown to over one billion with a premium volume of over nine million. We now serve over 15,000+ policyholders and are represented statewide by 700 agents in 190 agencies.
